“I am extremely proud that our municipality is among the founding members of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria,” says Tsarevo Mayor Marin Kirov in a conversation with journalist Veselina Milanova in the latest episode of Kmet Cast, marking NAMRB’s 30th anniversary.

As a first-term mayor, he highlights the practical benefits of membership in the Association: enabling municipalities to work as a community, exchange experience, receive expert support and have their interests represented before central government.

“When the state budget is being adopted, NAMRB and its teams are our voice before central government. The Association is our first port of call, and we receive substantial expert support,” Marin Kirov says.

He also highlights the support the municipality received through NAMRB following the two disasters that affected Tsarevo. The Mayor discusses a meeting between local government representatives and the leadership of the Ministry of Interior, which addressed disaster prevention and response, road safety and longstanding proposals put forward by the Association.

The conversation also covers Tsarevo’s recovery from the disasters, the need for works to regulate the course of the Cherna River, the difficulties involved in removing illegal buildings, and the ongoing process of preparing the municipality’s General Spatial Development Plan.

Marin Kirov outlines the development of healthcare services in the municipality, the role of culture and sport in extending the tourist season, improvements to transport connectivity, and efforts to make Tsarevo an attractive place to live all year round.

In closing, the Mayor stresses that NAMRB must preserve its expertise and continue to provide equal support to all local authorities.
